The article highlights an experience report developed with ninth grade students at a school in Santarém, in the state of Pará, whose main goal was to problematize and explore calculation situations involving boat and speedboat trips between Santarém and Manaus, considering the adversities of a period of extreme drought in the Amazon region. The activities developed were conducted based on calculations of travel times and costs for trips between Santarém and Manaus, via podcast production. The theoretical contribution is based on discussions associated with the use of technological resources for learning in the classroom, and the methodological procedures were developed based on the planning of teaching situations associated with exploratory qualitative research. The actions developed were part of the planning associated with the Pedagogical Residency Program (PRP) and included the participation of the actors involved: students, residents, and teachers. The results of this report show the context possibilities and problems associated with the mathematical and economic implications of choosing a means of transport, particularly the social, economic, and environmental impacts of changes in river travel due to the river drought emphasized in the year 2023. The results generated, with the development of activities, emphasized how mathematics plays a fundamental role in decision-making on river trips and in understanding the complexities of seasonal climate changes in the Amazon region.
