THE GAME PIF RATIONAIS AS A TEACHING RESOURCE FOR TEACHING THE THEME OF NUMBERS

The research presented here is an investigation carried out on textbooks intended for the 5th year of elementary school, referring to the Structured Material adopted in schools in the state education network in the state of Mato Grosso. The objective of this research was to identify how these books approach the use of support materials such as games and manipulative materials within the theme of numbers in the mathematics discipline and to develop a proposal that can complement this material. In the analyzed material we found only two suggestions for support materials for students when working on multiplicative and fractional numbers and some suggestions for manipulative materials for teachers to use in classes, such as a calculator, ruler, gold material, abacus, caliper and micrometer. Given the scarcity of materials available in the analyzed material, we dedicated ourselves to developing and applying a game, called “PIF Racionais”, in order to help teachers work with rational numbers. This application took place at Escola Estadual Luiza Nunes Bezerra in Juara – MT with a 5th year class. The game brings a dynamic approach to rational numbers exploring percentages, fractions, decimals and golden material, with rules adapted from the traditional card game known as PIF. The purpose of the game is to encourage learning from a playful perspective, making it possible to reconcile cards with the same values from different representations of rational numbers. At the end of the research, we concluded that manipulative or support materials and games are important in students' mathematical learning as they can simulate real-world problem situations and build representations of numbers. From the development of the proposal, we can say that the game in question was well received by students, becoming a resource that can favor the teaching and learning process of the topic of Numbers in the classroom.
